Alta’s year in light

Alta lies about 400 km north of the Arctic Circle. Winter brings the polar night and the Northern Lights, summer brings the midnight sun, and we run tours through both.

Hunting the Northern Lights

Our most popular tour, with one mission: find the best place to see the Aurora tonight. Small groups set off by minibus with a photographer guide.

With over 15 years as Aurora chasers, we found the Northern Lights on 87–90% of our departures last season. There are no guarantees, but we drive up to 200 km to find clear skies.

Five Aurora Canvas Domes and the Boutique Apartment sit beside GLØD HQ, about 5 km from downtown Alta. Half the dome is transparent, so you hear the squirrels outside, and with luck you see the Northern Lights from your bed.

The taste of the Arctic

Everything we serve is made in our own kitchen, from cod, salmon, shellfish, reindeer, lamb and moose in their season. Eat in the GLØD lounge or in the large lavvu. Since summer 2026, Restaurant GLØD also opens seven tables on selected dates.
